The Points of Contact is a multiscreened, multi-voice-over film installation series profiling culturally and linguistically hybrid individuals in moments of recollection and self-definition. It is an intersection of image, sound, language, culture and state of mind. Each installation is an audiovisual space, at once a symphony and cacophony of movement, words, thoughts and images that ask the audience to engage in a process of discovery, recognition and transcendence.
The setting is a 20 x 20-foot room with speakers in every corner and a 4 x 8-foot video screen on every wall. A 4 1/2 minute dual-screened image plays simultaneously on four walls, repeating at least three times from any perspective in the room. In the center is a red velvet circular couch, from where one can hear the three voice-overs equally. The voice-overs emanate from round the room speakers, including speakers in the floor and ceiling, and it is possible to hear the singular voices from different points in the room as well as commingled from the velvet couch. The demo was shot on Super-8, transferred to mini-digital video and split-screened using a Final Cut Pro video effect.
