The paint splash (above) is an outtake of a different version made for financial house Deloitte & Touche to illustrate a brochure describing the art of the deal. Yellow and blue paints were shot from high-pressure nozzles by a special-effects person to collide in mid-air, forming the green color. High-speed strobes and camera were fired electronically via a split-second relay timer device that also controlled the burst of paint. Don't try this at home with the kids, folks; it makes a big mess. I used a Mamiya RZ with a LightPhase digital camera back. Shooting splashes with a digital camera is great fun because you can see what you got right away. I used the LightPhase back with a G4 Titanium PowerBook on a custom-made bracket by model-maker extraordinaire Tom Klem that fits beautifully on a Foba camera stand.
