Continuing my journey through Mali, I photographed this Fulani woman wearing enormous gold earrings and necklace. This jewelry is the repository of all her family’s wealth. The earrings are not solid but are nonetheless quite heavy. I wanted the focus of the photograph to be on her earrings and worked close to her to get the style of image I was after. The close-up shot of the necklace reveals the detail work of the gold. I took both these images with a 35-70mm Zoom-Nikkor lens.
