This was taken in Ganvié, Benin, a floating village where all the houses are on stilts and the market is conducted on small boats. As I moved between buildings in a small wooden boat, a young girl caught my eye and followed me, wading through the water. She came within two feet of me and stared into my eyes transfixed. I wanted to get a shot of her but also show the two boys who were also following me and show the houses on the water in the background. Fortunately, I already had a wide-angle lens on my camera. I put my camera up to my eye and she leaned in ever so slightly and I took two shots. She erupted in laughter and so did I. It was one of the most special moments for me on the trip.
