Benin was the source country of many of the slaves that were brought to the United States and the Caribbean. Along the "slave route" near the town of Ouidah, Benin, there are concrete sculpture representations of the former rulers who took part in the slave trade, the Dahomey kings – this one is of "Akaba" whose symbol was the chameleon because he often changed his policies to suit various warring elements. This was shot from up close and a low angle with a 20-35mm f/2.8 Zoom-Nikkor lens to emphasize the figure.
