In this village near Cové, Benin, dozens of children ran to greet the Jeep as it rolled off the bumpy, red dirt road, pulling in to a square surrounded by tin-roofed buildings. Eventually, more than a hundred naked and nearly-naked children joined grandmothers and mothers carrying infants to watch the newcomers. A group of fifteen men, dressed in a riot of color, drummed and sang in the square. Dozens more sat or stood to the side as the children crowded around them. As I was photographing the dance performance, I turned around and noticed this scene behind me. Using my Nikon N90s and 35-70mm f/2.8 Zoom-Nikkor lens I took this shot.
