he innermost tower of Angkor Wat represents Mt. Meru, center of the Hindu universe, its four surrounding spires symbolizing the peaks of the Himalaya. These monks on pilgrimage continue a tradition that began with the temple's construction 850 years ago. Although they refused money offered for patiently waiting for the photo to be taken, they gratefully shared our simple breakfast of oranges and bread.
